We’re fighting to mobilize, persuade and turn out every African-American voter possible on the issues that impact their communities and affect their lives — and we are building a state-of-the-art research, digital, and communications infrastructure to do it.
Photo: DANA MIXERThe power of the African-American vote is immense. It gave Democrats the majority in Congress in 2006. In 2008, it sent Barack Obama to the White House and returned him again in 2012. It has been said that when African-Americans vote, the country is better off.
African-Americans believe in the promise of America, a country they helped build. They believe in the promise of opportunity for themselves, their children and their families. They believe in justice, safe and secure communities, the promise of economic opportunity and an equity stake in the American dream. African-American voters believe in quality, affordable healthcare and the possibility to send their children to the college of their choice.
They will no longer allow their voices to be drowned out by a political system that attacks their voting rights and enacts policies that attempt to turn back the clock.
African-American leaders at the local, state and federal level fight for these values every day. To support and further mobilize that fight, Protecting Our Vote is building an infrastructure to target and engage this unique and powerful community. We will reach them where they are and be ever present — not just on the Sunday before an election. From the Reconstruction of the 1870s to the Presidential politics of 2016 and beyond, African-Americans have worked to build a nation where their voices are heard.
Protecting Our Vote will help ensure those voices are heard from City Halls to the Halls of Congress to the halls of the West Wing. We will not be silenced. We will inform, engage, energize and empower African-American voters to fight and win at the ballot box – every election!
What We Do…
We’re fighting to mobilize, persuade and turn out every African-American possible on the issues that impact their communities and affect their lives — and we are building a state-of-the-art research, digital, and communications infrastructure to do it.
In 2018 and beyond, we will fight to ensure that voters across the nation are educated to the changes in their state’s voting laws; are mobilized and equipped to exercise their constitutional rights this fall; and are protected from any election day attempts to deny them their right to vote.
Permanent Interests in 2018 and beyond…

That’s why Protecting Our Vote is working tirelessly to persuade and mobilize African-American voters in targeted races in 2018 and 2020, so that we can take back Congress, governorships and state legislatures. We will also help our allies fight for every voter in every state to take back the White House from Trump in 2020.
Engaging Voters at Protecting Our Vote…
Protecting Our Vote is building a permanent digital campaign to engage, mobilize and turn out voters around the issues and elections that impact their communities. We will not wait until an election is approaching. We will engage voters constantly.
Our program is focused and guided by the most up to date and accurate opinion research instead of tweets, blogs and the twenty-four-hour news cycle.
How Protecting Our Vote is Protecting the Right to Vote…
As voter suppression measures, including voter ID and the elimination of early voting hours, are sweeping the country, Protecting Our Vote is employing a multi-pronged strategy at both the grassroots and legislative levels and, when necessary, in court.
With your help, Protecting Our Vote is leading the effort to defeat these attempts at disenfranchisement. We conduct comprehensive legislative monitoring in the states where the legislative threat is the most dangerous. We’ll educate voters about the imminent threat of restrictive voting laws using digital and social media platforms.
